About Planet Patrol

Since 2016 Planet Patrol, a global non-profit movement, has been redefining what can be achieved through collective action and citizen science, by placing power in the hands of the people to tackle environmental issues.

The Planet Patrol app has been used in 113 countries and its user base is growing rapidly. Housing the most comprehensive and robust people-powered database, over the last six years thousands of volunteers around the world have recorded more than 460,000 pieces of litter data in the app, which would otherwise have been impossible to capture at scale. Over 50,000 participants have taken part in our activity-based clean up events, removing litter pollution from nature that would otherwise remain unobserved and unaccounted for.

Planet Patrol is particularly focused on protecting the world’s waterways and this year launched its Water Quality Testing pilot, a programme to encourage the general public to monitor and measure the quality of their freshwater environments, which will roll out nationwide in 2023. Planet Patrol also conducted its first ever Autumn Water Watch, a bi-annual national observational survey also launched.

Planet Patrol’s campaigning work featuring everything from our annual Litter Reports, Big Bag Ban and Autumn Water Watch are led by female founder, Lizzie Carr MBE, and have taken centre stage in the media spotlight, helping Planet Patrol to build a loyal following from the public.
