‘Beneath the Surface’ began with two simple questions: what is really in our waterways, and what could it mean for our health?
After a cancer diagnosis led her back to the water that once helped her heal, Lizzie Carr MBE begins an extraordinary journey to uncover what may be lurking in England’s waterways.
What begins as a personal journey quickly becomes something much bigger. Along the way, Lizzie and a growing community of citizen scientists test river water, reveal invisible pollutants and ask difficult questions about the systems meant to protect us and what this means for waterways globally.
At its heart, Beneath the Surface is a powerful and deeply human story about motherhood and what it takes to be an activist. It explores the invisible pollutants in our waterways and the very real impact they may have on our bodies and the generations to come.
This film is about resilience, community and the courage to demand answers when the answers don’t yet exist.
